THE Bradford Sunday Alliance Bulk Sports League have two clubs in the semi-final of the West Riding county Sunday cup competition after West Bowling and Thornton United won their quarter-final ties.

Both teams have been kept apart at the semi-final stage.

In the all-Alliance clash at Cottingley, defending league champions Thornton United beat first division side Aire Athletic 6-1.

With a man of the match display in the middle of the park from Cameron McGovern, United were never in trouble.

Dave Wilson tapped home the first after 30 minutes when the home defence finally gave way and then Dan Cunningham headed in at the back post at the start of the second half after good work by Andy Benjamin.

Impact substitute Josh Milner added a third goal to kill off the gallant home team and two well-crafted goals from Delroy White and another from Cunningham made it six with 15 minutes play.

Athletic pulled a consolation goal back in the closing stages on a very heavy pitch when Thomas Thickett found the net.

Thornton now go on to a semi-final at Woodlesford with Hope Inn Whites.

West Bowling move into the semi-finals of the County FA Sunday Cup with a 2-1 win over Woodman Social Club from Wakefield.

The hosts scored after 10 minutes from a low corner but, shortly before the break, Aidan Day was brought down and up stepped leading scorer Joe Jagger to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Five minutes into the second half, Chris Wood turned his defender and put in what seemed a soft shot but it deceived the keeper and went in.

Bowling can now look forward to a semi-final game at Woodlesford in April.

In the County trophy competition the Sunday Alliance remaining team - Westwood Park – were beaten by Wellington Westgate.

In the goals soccer sponsored Intermediate league cup Eccleshill Sunday trounced Grass Greener United 11-1 to book a place into the semi-finals at Rawdon Meadow against Junction F.C of Wyke.

Eccleshill took an early lead with a long-range shot from Jordan Williams who added to his tally later in the match Mathew Hannah it hit five in the demolition.

Terence Hargaves claimed a brace with Daniel Firth also on the score sheet for the visitors

There was also some Premier action and, for the second home game running, the weather forced Eagles to arrange their game against Buttershaw Celtic on artificial grass.

Eagles scored three goals before half-time with the strikes coming from Steve Bargh and two from debutant Matt Dempsey.

Celtic were obviously pumped up at the break and started the second half much better, using the strong wind to their advantage.

An unstoppable strike into the top hand corner of the goal by Liam Keeley gave Celtic hope and they scored a second midway through the second half via Paul Blake but Eagles held on for a hard-fought victory.
