THE Yorkshire Amateur League as a whole managed to get 12 matches played, but there was disappointment was the postponement of two notable cup ties.

The fifth-round WRCFA Challenge Trophy Ties between Drighlington and Ilkley Town Reserves and the fourth-round tie involving Slaithwaite United and Fairbank United were both called off.

In the Premier Division, Farsley Celtic Juniors made up for lost time with a hard-earned yet deserved 5-2 victory at Trinity OB even though they were not at their fluent best.

The victory makes it five on the trot for Farsley, who began the game on the back foot with Gary Kennedy netting the goal to put hosts Trinity ahead after five minutes.

This galvanised Farsley into having their best spell of the match and they went in at the break 4-1 ahead.

The day belonged to Danny Lyons, who bagged the last four Farsley goals in a spree started by Craig Farrand with one of his renowned free-kicks.

Farsley are back on top of the Premier Division after overtaking Leeds Medics, whose game was postponed with Stanningley now third.

Stanningley thumped Wigton Moor 6-0 to rack up their fourth consecutive victory to move up to third place in the table.

This is the most settled Stanningley side seen for a long time with credit due to the stabilising influence of manager Gareth Rennard and skipper Jay Carr.

Stanningley were on top throughout and their goals came from Brad White (3), James Allen, with his 14th goal in all domestic league and cup games this season, Brad Sharrocks and Ash Williamson.

In Division 1, Grangefield OB Reserves won 3-1 at Colton Athletic to climb to the summit.

Grangefield keeper Phil Gill was man of the match to underline the pressure that was absorbed by the visiting team.

Grangefield led 1-0 at the interval thanks to Tom Menaldino's spectacular cross-shot and a full-blooded battle ensued.

Colton restored parity in the 69th minute thanks to Joe Spencer turning in a Jordan Thackray cross but within minutes the recent signing Jack Kitson restored Grangefield’s advantage before grabbing his second late on.

In Division 2, Gildersome Spurs OB hammered Woodkirk Valley 6-1 on the all-weather pitch at Bruntcliffe School.

Dylan Bradley gave Woodkirk the lead but serious promotion contenders Gildersome led 3-1 at half-time with two goals from leading scorer Mike Hall, who has with 22 goals in all domestic games, with Aidan McCormack adding the third.

Steven Wales has returned to the Spurs club and the one-time Representative XI star showed that he means business with a second-half hat-trick as Gildersome give priority to reaching Division one.
