JOE Keyes is ready to be thrust into a lion’s den as he gears up for his Bulls debut at Leigh on Sunday.

The scrum half has declared himself fit and ready for action after arriving at Odsal on a deal until the end of the 2018 campaign.

Keyes recently asked to leave London Broncos after finding himself down the pecking order at a club he had played for since the age of 12.

Keyes, who played seven times in Super League for London but has featured only four times this year following ankle surgery, watched Sunday's Halifax defeat from the stands.

The 20-year-old former England academy international from Hertfordshire could now make his bow with St Helens loanee Lewis Charnock having gone down injured at the weekend.

Keyes said: “I’m fit and available and there is no bigger game than Leigh away.

“I’m not expecting anything, but I’m going to train really hard this week and hope I do enough to get selected.

“Top four is the goal and we haven’t given up on that. Sunday against Halifax wasn’t our day but we will be working to fix things up.

“I’d like to think I have something to offer to the team and will be doing my best to show that.”

Keyes met with Bulls boss Rohan Smith last week, renewing an acquaintance which began in New Zealand several years ago.

Explaining how the move materialised, Keyes said: “London brought in several half backs and I had been injured, so I thought my options would be limited.

“I was ready for a new challenge and I’m 20 now, so I thought the time was right to move away.

“I’ve known Rohan for a while and there are people at the Bulls who know me, such as Rhys Lovegrove and Richie Mathers, and that probably helped.

“I was going to sign for Wakefield at the start of the year when Brian Smith was there.

“That fell through, but Rohan has obviously spoken to his dad about me.

“I went out to New Zealand for a month a few years ago and met Rohan when he was at the Warriors.

“I met him again last week when I knew Bradford were interested. It’s good to be here.

“Competition for places here is strong but that's good and I’ll have to be at my best to get into this team, that’s for sure.

“When I was younger, I used to look up to players such as Darren Lockyer.

“I like taking the line on with my running game and there are obviously a lot of areas I want to work on – mainly my kicking game, my consistency and my game-management.

“There are all things I’ve been working on and I’m still only 20.”

The Bulls are thought to be keen on bringing at least one more London player to Odsal and are also being linked with a move for Aussie half-back Dane Chisholm, who spent the end of last season on loan at Hull KR.
