THUNDER and lightning, particularly down the Aire Valley, curtailed many matches in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League, but that wasn't the reason that second-placed club Haworth missed the chance to go back to the top of Division One.

They lost by three wickets at home to Embsay, but it was a tight affair, with the visitors triumphing five minutes before the 8pm deadline.

Haworth posted 218, with Damian Rowell (50) leading the way, alongside Jamie Rowell (45) and Dave Bainbridge (43) as Aslam Hussain finished with 6-17.

Haroon Ali (60) and Elliot Stockton (58) helped Embsay across the line.

Adam Smith (64no and 3-42) was the star of the show for Oakworth at Foulridge.

The Noyna side were dismissed for 97, with Michael Scarborough taking 5-13, and the visitors from Cure Hill only lost three wickets in reaching their target.

Ingrow St John’s suffered at the hands of Riddlesden’s two new players.

Zahir Abbas took 4-17 as the Saints were shot out for 83, and then Mohammad Shahnawaz hit 51 not out to take the Grange Road side to the points.

For the third time this season, rain rescued lowly Cowling.

At Haworth Road, they had stumbled to 109, with Ajmal Choudhry (39) top-scoring as Waheed Rehman took 4-27.

The Baildon Bottom side were on course for victory at 35-0 when play was abandoned.

Sutton (185) were denied three points when Denholme’s last pair batted out time to rescue a point.

For the Royd Hill side, Sam Solley (57) and Ryan Ridehalgh (38) were the main contributors as Matt Wear (4-32) and Ryan Judson (4-53) did the damage with the ball.

Neil Spencer (67) then kept the Bradford Road side in the game, and they were 159-9 at the time, with Richard Walker taking 4-60.

Leaders Bingley Congs made the short journey to third-placed Crossflatts and were thwarted early doors by the rain. The Ryshworth Park side had reached 38-1 when play was halted.
