WITH a game to go in Division One of the Bradford & District Evening League, Salem Athletic and Mayfield have already booked their places in the end-of-season play-off finals on August Bank Holiday Monday.
The only question is who will finish as league champions, and this will be answered tonight (Wednesday) as Salem Athletic, who are a point clear of Mayfield, host Denholme while Mayfield entertain Great Horton Park Chapel.
Salem retained top spot by defeating Thornton by 23 runs.
Setting Thornton a target of 110-8 (Majid Ur Rehman 51no, Greg Soames 3-15, Bradley Weatherhead 3-47), they went on to restrict Thornton to 87-9, thanks largely to Osama Ahmed’s 3-3 from four overs, despite a defiant 28 from Tom Ashley.
Mussaver Shah (27) top-scored in Mayfield’s 125 at Omars, with Abbas Ahmed taking 4-28 and Mohammed Data 3-18.
Tight bowling from Mayfield then helped dismiss the hosts for 73 (Mohammed Data 31, Zahid Khaliq 3-6).
Great Horton Park Chapel recorded their first victory of the season by passing a weakened Shelf’s 67 (Leigh Butterfield 34) for the loss of just two wickets with 6.4 overs to spare, with Ammar Syed top-scoring with 24.
With two games to go in Division Two, Greenfield and Ciroc remain joint top on 18 points, three points clear of Hepworth & Idle.
Ciroc had an eight-wicket victory over Bradshaw after dismissing visitors for 64, with Khuram Khalid taking 4-18. Fahid Rehman led the way with 36 not out in Ciroc’s reply of 65-2.
Greenfield picked up two points without playing as Yorkshire LPS unfortunately had to concede.
Tight bowling from Jordan Moore (3-15) and the other Hepworth & Idle bowlers kept John Breare to 111-8, with the top scorer being 'Mr Extras' on 30.
A 55 opening partnership between brothers Kevin (27) and Simon McDermott (39) looked to have set the home side on the road to victory but Steve Tinsley (3-14) and Chris Coates (3-18) had other ideas, and aided by seven outstanding catches and a run out, Hepworth & Idle faltered to 93-8 from their 18 overs.
Daisy Hill continued their recent good form with a third successive victory, this time overcoming Cambing’s 65 (Bilal Mughal 4-6) for the loss of just four wickets with one over to spare.
