THERE will be a renewal of old rivalries tomorrow when Bradford City entertain newly-promoted Middlesbrough at Eccleshill United in the FA Women's Premier League North.

In the clubs' Yorkshire & Humberside League days, they were involved in countless fiercely-contested battles, and City's first league and cup successes in that competition came at the expense of Middlesbrough.

This is their first meeting since.

Last week's seasonal opener did not go well for City as they went down 2-0 at home to Derby County, but while head coach Steve Winterburn has taken time out this season to concentrate on work, the caretaker-management team have some work to do themselves.

"We worked hard but we need to improve in the final third," was the brutally honest assessment of striker Laura Elford. "We created so many chances but just lacked the final pass or strike."

While City's first team are looking for more composure, the A team had no such problems as they opened the defence of the West Riding County League Cup with a 5-1 thrashing of Hemsworth Miners' Welfare with goals from Keavy Smith (2), Sinead Ord (2) and Kath Connell.

In Premier League North Division One, relegated Guiseley Vixens showed their resilience with a determined opening-day display to complete a 3-1 win at Liverpool Marshall Feds.

Olivia Thackray fired Guiseley ahead ten minutes before half-time, and Chantelle O'Hara added a second in the 54th minute but, while the home side pulled one back with 20 minutes to go, Guiseley hit back with a goal from Sarah Danby five minutes later to complete the scoring.

Tomorrow, Guiseley play the first of back-to-back games at Hull City - in the league and then the cup - while Brighouse Town, playing at this level for the first time, opened their campaign with a 3-0 defeat at home to Morecambe and now face a visit from Liverpool Feds.

There are no games this week in the West Riding County League but in the other League Cup games played last week, Farsley Celtic Reserves won 4-3 at Battyeford Belles and Silsden were 3-2 winners at Brighouse Town Development.
