HEATON Park claimed their first silverware as they added a new name to the list of winners in the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation eight-a-side competition.

They were only truly tested with the bat in their opening group match as opponents Al-Minarah posted 71 runs from their eight overs.

But Shoukat Ali (44) and Mohammed Shoaib (25) set about the task with aplomb and their partnership of 72 proved the highest in both sections as Park registered their first win.

The group semi-finals saw Rising Star only lose three wickets after choosing to bat but disciplined bowling by Heaton Park restricted them to a below-par 64 runs.

Openers Ali (29) and Shoiab (17) then got Park off to another brilliant start as they chased down their target in the seventh over.

The group final proved to be a one-sided affair as Kashmir Bradford were all out off the first ball of the sixth over for just 31 runs.

Spin was just to much for Kashmir as Ahmed Saeed (3-5) and Sohail Butt (4-3) ran through the batting order. The reply was then a formality as Park won by seven wickets in the fourth over.

Flix provided the opposition in the final and they were put in to bat after Park had won the toss.

Park continued with their four regular bowlers, who were all economical throughout the competition.

Consistent line and length from Ali and Istikhar Hussain saw them concede just nine runs in the first two overs, before spin in the middle overs maintained a strategy employed throughout the four games.

Saeed struck with the last ball of his first over after being hit for a six by Zeeshan Haider, who had performed well for Flix throughout the group games.

The fourth over saw Butt concede just six runs, with Flix struggling to score freely as they reached just 22 at the halfway stage.

Saeed bowled the fifth over and struck twice after being hit for a four off the second delivery, with Flix then losing a further two wickets in the sixth over to be five down.

They eventually reached only 47 at the end of their allocated overs and this enabled Park openers Ali (28) and Rashid Ayub (22) to bat sensibly and reach the target in the sixth over without being parted.

Heaton Park claimed 20 wickets during their four games, of which spinners Saeed and Butt bagged 15 between them.
