JAMES Mason toasted City’s German owners after the deadline-day double rounded off a hectic transfer window.

Newcastle’s Haris Vuckic tonight followed Sheffield United striker Marc McNulty in joining on loan. Stuart McCall has now made 11 signings in his 11 weeks back at the club.

Chief operating officer Mason paid tribute to Edin Rahic and Stefan Rupp for the club’s swift progress since they took charge.

He said: “I’m really pleased for our new owners Stefan and Edin tonight in that we end the first milestone of their time in charge in a good position.

“Yes it’s very early in the season but it could have been much worse on all levels.

“They are two good blokes who deserve a beer or two because they care about this club and fans need to know that.

“They have put their money where their mouth is and invested in the squad but also not been reckless for the sake of it.

“Equally like Stuart, they are prepared to back our own youth talent and that mix could be very exciting.

“We can’t guarantee success but we are building something special at the club that we want the people of Bradford to be proud of.”

McNulty has signed on a season-long loan, although Sheffield United can recall him in the next transfer window. Slovenian Vuckic’s contract runs until January 3.

In City’s other business of the day, Paul Anderson agreed to terminate his contract before signing for Northampton.

Mason added: “It’s incredibly frustrating and disappointing at times to see fans reacting to signings beforehand and without research into them.

“But most learned fans will realise the hard work that’s gone into anyone we’ve signed. It’s not just a two-minute job but weeks and months.

“McNulty and Vuckic weren’t names that were just pulled out the air at 9am. Today was about getting them at the right price.

“Along with Stuart McCall as manager, Greg Abbott might well prove to be the most astute signing this club have made this summer.

“Without him, we don’t get access to these players.

“We’ve got someone in Vuckic who is almost Premier League quality.

“Although we are far from saying we are the finished article, people have now got to let the players do the talking.

“Many people are happy to come up to Edin and suggest players we should sign but often there’s no realism to them.

“Top players are on two-to-three year contracts on huge amounts of money.

“We are working within the market we can afford to be in and I think we have done exceptionally well considering.”

McNulty has hardly featured at Bramall Lane this season but Mason is confident he can be a success in front of goal for City – an area which has held them back.

“People questioned why we have signed Marc McNulty. The simple answer is he scores a goal on average every two-and-a-half games.

“It might be a rival in our league letting him go but we have done our research.

“We know Sheffield United well and it just happens he won’t fit in their immediate plans.

“Paul Anderson is a very good player with pedigree. It just so happens he didn’t fit in with our particular plan. But we wish him all the best at Northampton.

“These are decisions you have to make in football.”
