IT has been labelled the ‘Shield of Shame’ by the more cynical Bulls supporters but, whatever the significance of tomorrow’s match, raw emotion will be in plentiful supply.

The visit of Sheffield in the Championship Shield final will see a number of players make their final appearance in the red, amber and black.

Danny Addy, who progressed through the youth ranks at Odsal and stayed loyal when Bradford were relegated two years ago, is poised for a tearful farewell.

Addy and Mitch Clark have agreed deals at Hull KR after making it clear they saw their futures in Super League.

Today’s Million Pound Game could see Rovers relegated but it is understood that both players will be leaving Odsal regardless and could have other options at top-flight clubs.

Addy has come of age at Bradford, as a player and a man, becoming a father for the first time earlier this year and proving his ability and indeed versatility in various positions.

Having seen his contemporaries such as Elliott Whitehead, John Bateman and James Donaldson prosper after leaving Bradford, nobody could begrudge Addy the opportunity to do likewise.

At times this season he has worn the look of a player who is ready for a new challenge elsewhere, but do not overlook the service Addy has given to Bradford these past seven years.

The Bulls will always have a place in his heart.

Clark is set to move on after just one year at Bradford, having impressed Hull KR football manager Jamie Peacock with his early-season performances in particular.

Paul Clough, Lee Gaskell and Dale Ferguson have agreed moves to Huddersfield and will have breathed a huge sigh of relief following the Giants’ win in East Hull seven days ago.

Clough and Gaskell have endured injury-plagued campaigns but Ferguson has looked in fine shape in recent weeks and should feature tomorrow.

Adrian Purtell and Jay Pitts, who have both given fine service during their time at Bradford, will also hope to be involved ahead of their end-of-season move to London Broncos.

Epalahame Lauaki has largely underwhelmed in his two-season stint but he too will hope for one last hurrah before heading home.

Danny Williams has not been offered a new deal by Rohan Smith and he has nothing lined up for next season.

Tom Olbison’s future is also seemingly up in the air with Smith working to a tight budget and keeping his options open for the forwards in his squad for 2017.

A move to Barrow is believed to be on the table for Lewis Charnock and he too could make his final Bradford appearance tomorrow.

There will be plenty of other 2016 squad members who will not be seen at Odsal again after this weekend.

Jean-Philippe Baile and Richie Mathers have long gone but others such as Steve Crossley, Dan Fleming, Etu Uaisele, Matty Blythe, Jonny Walker and Lucas Walshaw are also going, if they have not gone already.

Head coach Smith is writing a new chapter at Odsal and, crucially, plenty of key men are staying such as Kieren Moss, Dane Chisholm, James Clare, Alex Mellor, Kris Welham and Adam O’Brien.

There is also a promising core of homegrown players but it will be the quality of the new arrivals – headed up by Leon Pryce – who will surely determine how good Bradford will be in 2017.

There is a seismic overhaul taking place at Odsal right now and the best way of closing an entirely forgettable 2016 campaign would be to win the Championship Shield and winning it well.
