RELAXED Bingley ace Sam Bilham is hoping his home event – Trackrod Rally Yorkshire – can inspire him to an elusive victory.

The British Trial and Rally Drivers' Association (BTRDA) Rally Series draws to a close in the Dalby forests today.

The best so far by teenage Fiesta ST Trophy star and Reis Motorsport Insurance-backed Bilham, whose co-driver is James Whittaker, in the seven rounds is second in the Carlisle Rally.

But the 19-year-old has a 100 per cent finishing record in his first year behind the wheel of the Fiesta and has consistently appeared on the podium.

"Our pace has been improving with each round we have contested this year and hopefully I can finally get a series win at my home event in Yorkshire," said Bilham.

"We have had to learn the car while competing on the rallies as we haven't had the budget to go testing as often as we would have liked.

"That has certainly held us back this year but I really do feel at home in the Fiesta now and it will be a good event to try and up our pace."

Nevertheless, Bilham heads into the final round in a relaxed mood and believes this could be the key to success.

"It's really nice to be competing on Rally Yorkshire with no real pressure and just being able to maybe try things we wouldn't normally do," he said.

"Sometimes that works, and I guess sometimes it doesn't, but I've always gone well in the Yorkshire forests and I really do enjoy the stages.

"They certainly don't suit everyone's style as they are so quick – it's really a case of 'fortune favours the brave' in there.

"Hopefully that combination will mean it will finally all come together so we can really end the season on a high."

Trackrod Rally Yorkshire consists of over 40 miles in the Dalby and Staindale forests.
