IT was a busy month for the West Bradford Golf Club Ladies, with their B Team having a mixed June and the Tuesday competitions producing some real drama.

The B Team had a thrilling away match at Lightcliffe.

All the games were very close - West Bradford won three and lost three - but they had to concede the seventh game, so Lightcliffe took the honours 4-3.

The Lightcliffe team will come to West Bradford for the return match this month.

The team got over that Lightcliffe disappointment in their home match with Elland on June 25.

The promised rain never arrived and while all the games were close, with a couple of halves in the mix. West Bradford came out on top, meaning they have won both the home and away matches against Elland.

In the White Rose League on June 28, West Bradford's team were away at Crow Nest Park. All the games were very close, but Crow Nest Park were the victors, 3½ to 1½.

Their next (and final) match is against Crow Nest Park at home on Thursday, July 29, when West Bradford will be looking to redress the balance.

As for the West Bradford club competitions, the St John's Cup & Monthly Medal on June 1 was played in beautiful weather, with the winner, Jayne Saunders, coming in with a level par 72.

This was on a countback with Mavis Kunz, who also had a level par 72.

Jenny Chapman and Karen Nixon also performed well at the event, recording a 76 and an 80 respectively.

The Cordingley Trophy Texas Scramble Medal the following Tuesday was also played on a beautiful summer's day.

The competition was very close and all four teams were within 4.2 shots of each other, but it was Pam Sprint, Marjorie Sunderland and Helen Shields who emerged with the victory.

Only eight points separated the six teams who entered the Ping 4BBB competition on June 15, with the first two places being decided on a countback.

The winners were Marjorie Sunderland and Helen Shields with 45 points (24 front nine and 21 back nine).

Sunderland started with a par on the first and had a breath-taking birdie on the 10th for five points, sinking a long putt from off the green.

Jayne Saunders and Sheila Terry also had 45 points (25 front nine and 20 back nine). Saunders had no less than six pars, with five on the front nine alone.

As only the top 52 pairs in England qualify for the Grand Final, it is not known at this stage whether Sunderland and Shields will be competing on Monday, September 6 at Thonock Park in Gainsborough.

There were some cracking results in the Tuesday Summer Meeting medal on June 22, with four ladies shooting under par and a further two level par.

The best of these was lady secretary, Carole Guest, with a brilliant 10 under par nett 62, which has broken this year's record of lady captain's nett 63. It means Guest has pulled her handicap to 39.5.

Helgi Sonsara, who has regularly been coming in with good scores, had a fantastic four under par nett 68.

Another player with consistent good scores was Mavis Kunz, with a wonderful three under par nett 69. Sonsara's handicap has reduced to 35.8 and Kunz' to 35.1. All these players are in Division Two.

In Division One, Jayne Saunders came in with a good result of two under par nett 70 and pulled her handicap to 19.8.

Marjorie Sunderland and Jackie Mungovin were the two ladies with nett par of 72.

An even better result from Helgi Sonsara followed two days later in the Summer Meeting Stableford, as she came in with 41 points and posted the best score of the day.

Sonsara was five under, which was one better than Tuesday and off her new handicap too. Her result was the only one under par.

Finally, last Tuesday saw the Hill Bowl Medal, which had been re-arranged from May 4 and changed to a one-day event instead of matchplay.

Three players came in under par, with Helen Shields pipping Mavis Kunz on a back nine countback. Both scored nett 70s with Pat Sutcliffe on nett 71.

Also, Sutcliffe was the only player to achieve a birdie, with a two on the 12th.
