Bradford boxer Connor Lawrence seals victory in Leeds

BRADFORD’S Connor Lawrence remains undefeated following his points win over Scunthorpe’s Oliver Brackenbury-Danquah in Denzil Browne’s professional boxing show named ‘Carnage’.

The event was held at the Leeds Banqueting Suite on November 17, and the victory has seen the light heavyweight move onto eight professional victories in as many fights, with one of those wins coming by way of knockout.

Despite only fighting four rounds in Leeds, Lawrence, 21, admitted that he is ready to up the ante ahead of a potential regional title showdown.

He said: “I’ve had a very busy year with four bouts and had eight professional matches since I turned pro just over two years ago. So, I feel that I’m now more than ready for fights of at least six rounds and hopefully eight to position me as a serious contender for regional titles.

“Those who’ve just managed to go the distance with me in these bouts wouldn’t last six rounds, especially as I’m already holding my own in ten round sparring sessions. To achieve my goals, I hope to be on future shows here in Yorkshire working with Denzil Browne. I’m very grateful to him for the opportunity I’ve been given.”

Leeds boxer Billy Pickles also enjoyed a victorious return to the ring as the show’s main event.

He was particularly delighted with his victory over Sheffield southpaw star, Justin Menzie in his fifteenth professional contest, as it was his first bout since suffering his only defeat of his career against Lucas Ballingall while boxing for the English super lightweight title last July.

Jake Turner from Halifax, in his second professional match and Durham’s Tom Summerbell, in his fifth fight also comfortably defeated their respective opponents Ricky Leach and George Rogers on points.

Browne, who hosted the show, said: “I’m delighted that this first Yorkshire show under my management working with Dennis Hobson Promotions was a success. We offered hundreds of fans a new opportunity to see local boxing talent developing on a friendly show.”

He added: “We plan bigger events early in 2024 featuring other top Yorkshire prospects including the highly rated Josh Wisher who unfortunately couldn’t compete this time. Look out for us early in the New Year.”
