CLUBS that have entered the Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup have been given five options to complete their first-round matches because of the wet weather.

The choices are: Play the game on the original date of Sunday, April 21 (tomorrow); delay it a week until Sunday, April 28; play the match as a T20 game in the week commencing Monday, April 29; arrange a bowl-out; or, as a last resort, toss a coin.

A statement on the Heavy Woollen Cup Play Cricket site reads: “We are all aware the recent weather conditions have been testing to say the least. As many leagues have now delayed the start of the season, we have decided the following in relation to first-round fixtures:

“You may still play on April 21 if you believe the ground will be fit to safely do so.

“If this is not possible you should re arrange for April 28.

“If for any reason it is not possible to play on the 28th then you should play a T20 game one evening of the week commencing April 29.

“Failing this you should arrange a bowl-out.

“As a last resort the tie should be decided by the toss of a coin.

“Clubs should consider reversing venues if this means a game can be played.

“The home club should notify the competition secretary by email of any re-arranged date.

“All results should be submitted on Play Cricket immediately a result is obtained.

“As the second round is on May 5, and it is not possible to delay this due to individual leagues’ own competitions, we have to have our first-round ties decided by May 3.

“We know this is not ideal but (it) cannot be helped. We ask that all clubs do their best to work together to get these ties arranged and decided.”
