Wakefield Trinity have made a significant signing ahead of their Betfred Championship opener against the Bradford Bulls on Friday night.

They have snapped up winger Derrell Olpherts from Leeds Rhinos, with the 32-year-old having fallen out of favour at Headingley.

He had not played a game under Rohan Smith this term for the Super League heavyweights, but Trinity head coach Daryl Powell knows just how big a talent he is bringing to Belle Vue.

Olpherts played under Powell at Castleford, and the wing man notched an impressive 36 tries in 65 appearances for the Tigers.

The Wakefield-born talent is playing for his hometown club for the first time, and he needs just six more appearances to reach 200 for his career.
