GRAHAM Alexander wants City to keep playing on the edge as they try to take their unlikely play-off bid to the final day.

The Bantams can still catch sixth-placed Barrow if they win tonight’s rearranged clash in Cumbria.

City are currently five points behind after a run of three straight wins to maintain their outside hopes of snatching a play-off place.

Barrow are wobbling and Alexander is urging his side to carry on where they left off in Saturday’s dramatic come-from-behind victory at Walsall.

“Our edge has come in the last few games from ourselves,” he said.

“This is it and our aspiration. We are away and our eyes are open, so we are fighting and ready to perform and win.

“That’s what we have to get to. Teams have had massive prizes to play for, but our performance has been very high and that’s really good to see.

“We just have to go to Barrow and play like we did for the last 70 minutes.

“What will be will be. I just want us to keep this run going for our own contentment and mindset.

“I want the supporters to believe in us again because we’ve let them down maybe three or four weeks ago – and let ourselves down, more than anything.”

City’s late revival has lifted them up to 10th going into the penultimate game, although they will be without the suspended Jamie Walker.

There are two play-off spots potentially still up for grabs but City must win again to stay in the equation.

Alexander added: “Hanging around is a good way of putting it.

“We parked it maybe five games ago that we just wanted to show we have personality and character to win.

“I don’t see why we have to change that outlook right now.

“We showed all the stuff that the Bradford fans want to see in their team on Saturday.

“That’s what we have to do again. I’m not looking further ahead than that.

“Straight after the Walsall game had finished, the captain (Richie Smallwood) was in there saying, 'get the music on and get ready for Tuesday.'

“I didn’t have to say anything. I wanted the lads to enjoy that moment – it’s important you have at least half an hour after a game to enjoy the win.

“But straight away the captain’s talking to the players about focusing on Tuesday.

“That’s all we need to hear as a coaching staff that we’ve got players and leaders in there who can help us do our jobs. They know how important it is.”

In contrast to City’s upturn in form, Barrow have lost four of their last five games and have not won since Good Friday.

The Bantams had to defend strongly to see it out with 10 men at Walsall and Alexander expects another physical examination this evening.

“It’s League Two, it’s English football. You go through the divisions and all the teams have big guys and set-pieces, stuff like that.

“It’s par for the course. I don’t think there is going to be a game when you don’t have to defend your box at any level.

“We have to be ready for that. We have to learn from Saturday because the first 15 minutes was nowhere near any level to win a game of football.

“If we learn from that and the contrast and repeat what we did in the last 70 minutes, that will give ourselves the best possible chance.”
